Jo Ann Miller, director of choral activities at North Dakota State University since 1989, received her D.M.A. in choral conducting from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. She conducts the Concert Choir and University Chamber Singers, teaches undergraduate and graduate choral conducting and literature courses, and is the graduate coordinator for NDSU Music. 

Her choirs tour regularly overseas and throughout the United States. The Concert Choir has been invited to perform at national, regional and state music conventions, including the 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012 North Central-American Choral Directors Association (NC-ACDA) conferences, and the 2001 national ACDA conference in San Antonio, Texas. In addition, Dr. Miller serves as the chorus master of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and the artistic director of the NDSU Baroque Festival. 

An active member of ACDA, Dr. Miller is the current national treasurer and member of the ACDA Executive Board of Directors. She has served as as division president of NC-ACDA, and as state president for North Dakota ACDA. She was named North Dakota’s Outstanding Choral Director in 2004, received the Distinguished Educator Award from the NDSU Blue Key National Honor Society, and was named NDSU University Distinguished Professor in 2008, the highest faculty award and rank awarded by the university. Other professional affiliations include MENC and the National Collegiate Choral Organization.
