Grades 9–12, a select group of 100 singers

directed by Carl Chapman

Carl ChapmanCarl Chapman is the director of choral activities at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He directs four of the University's five choral ensembles, including the one hundred-voice University Choir; Le Choeur de Femmes, a select chorus of women's voices; and the University Chamber Choir. Training and nurturing of future choral directors are also among his responsibilities through courses in Choral Techniques and Conducting. The Oshkosh Chamber Singers, a community choir founded and conducted by Dr. Chapman, is an active part of the Oshkosh area's arts scene. The UW Oshkosh Choral Union, a combined force of nearly 200 singers, frequently performs masterworks from the choral/orchestral repertory.

Dr. Chapman received degrees in music education from Northwestern University, in choral conducting from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was the director of vocal music at Mukwonago High School in Mukwonago, Wisconsin for nine years and served as visiting lecturer at the University of Illinois before receiving his appointment at UW Oshkosh in 1981.

Dr. Chapman has been very active in the American Choral Directors Association and is past-president of the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association. He is a frequent clinician for festival and honors choirs, as well as for high school and junior high school choirs.

The All-State Men’s Choir will perform in Shattuck Auditorium at Carroll University on Saturday, January 14 at 5:00 p.m.

WCDA will form a select state choir of approximately 100 outstanding high school men, grades 9-12, to present an exceptional program of men's choral literature. Each director may submit up to 8 names.

APPLICATION: We appreciate your assistance in forming the choir by giving your professional and accurate opinion of the singers' abilities on the application form. Directors need to complete only one form for each student; there is no separate student form this year.

PREPARATION: Students are expected to have the music fully prepared to ensure a musically satisfying experience for all. WCDA encourages each high school choir director to assist his/her students in this preparation. The All-State experience will begin in sectionals to ensure that students have arrived prepared for rehearsal with the All-State conductor. It has been the experience of previous WCDA All-State Choir guest directors that careful preparation is crucial for the overall success of the All-State experience.

TO APPLY: As we are anticipating a great response, you are encouraged to send in your materials early!

The Application period, November 1 to November 15, has ended.
