WCDA 2013 Student Conducting Competition PDF Print E-mail

The Wisconsin Choral Directors Association will sponsor its 2013 Student Conducting Competition for undergraduates at the annual WCDA State Convention, which will be held in Milwaukee in a new 2-Day format, Friday and Saturday, January 11-12, 2013.

Future choral directors are encouraged to take advantage of this excellent opportunity! Winners from past WCDA Conducting Competitions have secured some of the finest choral directing and teaching positions available. Postmark Deadline for applications is NOVEMBER 1.

Participation is limited to EIGHT students, so applications should be mailed as soon as possible. Earliest postmark determines priority.

About the Competition—

The Student Conducting Competition focuses on communication skills within the rehearsal setting and through conducting gestures. Each student will conduct two pieces of music in a fifteen-minute rehearsal of a lab choir. Repertoire will be announced in advance.

  • The goal for the student conductor is to communicate ideas, work efficiently, and make music. The demonstration choir will have learned the music, but the student conductors will be expected to refine the ensemble's performance.

  • Three judges will give a written critique to each student conductor and a Certificate of Participation.

  • The winner of the competition will be recognized at the WCDA convention.

  • Directors must be members of WCDA in order for their students to participate.
