The Wisconsin Choral Directors Association is pleased to sponsor its 2020 Student Conducting Competition for undergraduate students—

Thursday, January 9, 2020 • 6:30–8:30 P.M. • Appleton East High School

The competition is part of the annual WCDA All-State Choirs Event, which will be held in Appleton, January 10-11.

Student choral directors at the collegiate level are encouraged to take advantage of this excellent opportunity! Winners from past WCDA Conducting Competitions have secured some of the finest choral directing and teaching positions available.

The deadline for applications is
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2019.

Participation is limited to EIGHT student conductors, so the application forms should be mailed as soon as possible. Earliest postmark determines priority. Directors of applicants MUST be members of WCDA.

about the competition
The WCDA Student Conducting Competition focuses on conducting gestures and communication skills within the rehearsal setting. Each student will conduct two selections in a 15-minute rehearsal with the Appleton East High School Choir (Dan Van Sickle, Director).  The repertoire will be mailed to the eight participants directly: Vidi Aquam (Kevin Padworski), Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Inc., SSA, and The Lake Isle of Innisfree (Eleanor Daley), Oxford University Press, SSA.

• The goal of the competition is to clearly communicate ideas, work efficiently, and make great music!

• Three judges will give a written critique to each student conductor, and a Certificate of Participation.

• The winner of the competition will be recognized at the WCDA All-State Concert on Saturday, Jan. 11th, and will have the opportunity to conduct in a rehearsal with the WCDA All-State Treble Chorus (Giselle Wyers, conductor).
